I really like my R5 Bundle. Saying that the R5 is an entry-level wheel is like saying that the Miata is an entry-level club racer. Size doesn’t take away from the fun-factor.
This is the first and only sim racing equipment/experience I have had to date. I know that a larger wheel, like the R9 or R12, would provide more feedback, but I don’t know, like a Porsche compared to a Miata, that I would feel more immersed or just more of the same.
As many reviewers have said, the first accessory to add to the R5 Bundle would be the performance kit for the SR-P Lite pedals. The second, a 12” wheel. I also have the KS wheel for my GT racing. It’s lighter than the 12” wheel and provides a little more feedback on the R5.
The pedals include Alien-Mod’s 70kg load cell for the brake pedal and 3DRap's Pro Kit to improve the throttle and clutch feel. This setup is so much better than stock and comes closer to the clutch/brake/gas pedal feel I’m used to. My overall impressions of the R5 Bundle are…
The Good: * Overall size and weight of the wheel unit. * Good tactile feedback. * Bang for the buck. The Bad: * Weak and unrealistic brake pedal feel. * 11” wheel. * Size and location of the on/off button. Suggestions: * Include the brake performance kit for the SR-P Lite pedals as part of the R5 Bundle to differentiate it from the R3. * Include the 12” wheel as part of the R5 Bundle to further differentiate it from the R3. * Offer the ES Wheel/Formula Wheel Mod as a complete package so that switching wheel rims is unnecessary.
As you can see in the attached photos, I have added a dashboard to the R5 and the HGP shifter to add another level of realism. I wish there was a way to relocate the on/off button function to the dashboard. It’s kind of a pain to reach behind the dashboard to find the on/off button on the R5. I have yet to assign the toggle (left side) and momentary (right side) buttons and will wait until experience helps determine what functions I want them to be.
The verdict: I overwhelmingly recommend the R5 Bundle for anyone looking to start sim racing and want to stick with a single branded ecosystem.
I have had no issues it has been wonderful.
Have tried this and my dads Fanatec 8nm DD wheel. The r5 costs less and is probably slightly cheaper quality in terms of how the paddles and pedals feel but it's incredibly marginal. However, the actual feel of the wheel and the force feedback is hands down superior to the fanatec base in my opinion. I was amazed with the performance for the price, If I upgrade I will be staying with moza.
The product is great, no complains. The only thing negative was the wait on some new screws because some were missing. The process was quiet long. But other than that I am satisfied
